Getting There

After months of planning and a delay during which my plane full of people sat motionless at the gate for over four hours while the mechanics “fixed” a “maintenance issue” (I use the quotes because I don’t think you really fix a maintenance issue, you “fix” something that’s broken. So in my view, something on the plane was broken but the pilot didn’t want to alarm everyone. That said, when I asked the flight attendant about the wireless not working – at 30,000 feet over the ocean -  she said “Yeah, lots of things stopped working on this plane on the last leg. This plane is a mess.”) , I’m finally on my way to Spain.

I plan to spend three weeks getting back to basics with nothing but my old stub of a pencil, my worn notebook, the clothes on my back and a desire to simplify. And also my Samsung 15” laptop with 512 GB solid-state hard drive, my 3rd generation iPad with retina display, my Samsung Galaxy 7 phone (with Spanish data plan), my Osprey wheeled backpack with integrated detachable daypack and padded pockets for electronics, and two credit cards with extremely high limits. But other than that, just my notebook, pencil and the clothes on my back. At this point in my journey, I feel up to the challenge.
